Food was amazing. Service was friendly and prompt. We came for dinner one the way back to dallas from a weekend trip. Everything we tried was delicious. And I think we each got two slices of pie. One for there and one to go!
This place is truly a hidden gem and a must-visit if you're in the mood for a charming, old-school dining experience. The service here is consistently exceptional. Every time I've visited, the staff has been friendly, attentive, and eager to make my experience enjoyable. On one visit, the waitress even convinced me to sign up for their rewards program, which I now highly recommend--it's definitely worth it if you plan on becoming a regular like me. Now, let's talk about the food. On my first visit, I ordered the pork chop, and it was absolutely amazing. The flavor was spot on, and it was cooked to perfection. If you're ordering this, I'd recommend going for the double portion, as the chops are on the thinner side, and you'll definitely want more. The sides were equally satisfying--the carrots and mashed potatoes were hearty and delicious, rounding out the meal perfectly. On my second visit, I decided to try something different and went for the chicken salad. It was massive--easily enough for two meals. I could only finish half of it, but it was fresh, flavorful, and a great option if you're looking for something lighter. The real standout here, though, has to be the desserts. They are nothing short of spectacular. I've had the pleasure of trying at least six different pies, and every single one has been excellent. My personal favorite is the s'mores pie--it's rich, indulgent, and everything you'd want in a dessert. If you're a fan of delicious comfort food, incredible desserts, and warm, welcoming service, this place should absolutely be on your list. I can't wait to come back and try even more of the menu!
Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Lex was very friendly and attentive. Will definitely return.
We enjoy, visiting the Texan café, and Pie Shop whenever possible. The food and pies are worth the drive out to Hutto. It is a destinations for me. Every time I hear we are driving to Hutto, I know that there is pies circulating in my brain. There is usually a hustle and bustle for the crowd on the weekends. It's quite roomy to hold a large number of patrons. I love walking into the doors and seeing the massive counter of pies exhibited. Most of them are cream pies which my wife likes. I am more for the fruit and berry pies. together, we can share over a cup of coffee.
Another great stop at the Texan Cafe & Pie Shop! Have you tried the Coconut Pie? I actually had the sugar free coconut pie and it was great. Service is always good and how can you not enjoy the surroundings?! Get by there soon if you've never been! Go get Full (of PIE)
This was our first time in Hutto and highly recommend stopping here! Amanda was amazing and helped us navigate the menu and helped us pick out the best pies! Some of the best customer service we had in a long time! Everything was fresh and homemade. It was well worth the drive from Austin! Get the onion rings, trust us!
Down home cooking in Hutto. My boyfriend is about as country boy as they come and he had a hankerin' for some liver and onions and I do love me some chicken fried steak! We headed out to Texan Cafe and got both our needs met. As someone who grew up in the city, I was not really exposed to organ meats, but I do remember my mom having to eat liver and onions for iron when she was pregnant with my sister. I remember thinking it looked gross and when I tried it, it was confirmed. I will say, however, when the server brought out my guy's plate, I thought, now that actually looks good! I tried it and initially liked the taste, but after a few chews, that distinctive texture and taste came through. I still don't love it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered. Kelly thought it was better than his Aunt Edna's. High praise, indeed. As for my chicken fried steak, it was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was the best I've had, but it was flavorful and tender. The macaroni and cheese was cafeteria style, not how I, or anyone I know makes it, but reminded me of how the school cafeteria made it. The okra was perfect and crunchy and not slimy. On Kelly's plate, the green beans looked to be the canned variety, which he loves, but I hate. The best part was the pie!! They have about two dozen made fresh pies to choose from and we had the skillet apple pie, served hot on a cast iron skillet with a brandy caramel and a large scoop after frozen solid ice cream which melts a little slower than normally ice cream temp. It was AMAZING! Worth the trip and the uncomfortable fullness we felt afterward. We will be back again!
